Welcome to ShakeSoc!
Hopefully, in looking at this website, you are interested in William Shakespeare; his plays, his sonnets, his life. We at the Shakespeare Society, or ShakeSoc, love the ol’ Bard too and are dedicated to celebrating his works in any way we can. Although a young society, we have already put on eight full scale productions, a mini tour, held workshops and weekend shows and run three successful Shakespeare weeks to celebrate the late and greats birthday. However as the society moves into its fifth year we want to make it bigger and better than it has ever been before and for that, We Need YOU!
Shake It Up!
Whether through our own productions, attending professional productions or simply over coffee we look to explore the texts’ themes and content and their ability to be transferred to new and exciting contexts. We want to make and experience Shakespeare that is both enjoyable and accessible to as many people as possible.
Come and chat to me and the rest of the exec – we would love to hear your ideas.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING - Auditions (WSAF)
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING - WSAF 2011
"Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever,-
One foot in sea and one on shore,
To one thing constant never."
Setting Much Ado About Nothing at Woodstock Festival, 1969, we are looking for actors willing to participate in a relaxed, ensemble atmosphere, bringing new ideas to table and working within our re-imagining of one of Shakespeare's best known comedies in the Summer of Love.
We are holding auditions on Monday 9th May (Week 3) for this WSAF production, with re-calls on Tuesday and Wednesday of the same week. The audition process will be a text-based workshop with no need for prior preparation. If you have any problems attending this date, then contact one of us and we will arrange an alternative time for you.
This summer, love truly is a battlefield.
Date: 9th May 2011Time: 2:30pm - 5pm
Location: TBC (Keep checking for updates!)
Directors: Ronan Hatfull and Olly Ashforth-Smith

Shakespeare Week presents "Macbeth"
"Present fears are less than horrible imaginings..."
As part of our annual Shakesepare Week, in association with RSC Open Stages, The University of Warwick Shakespeare Society presents... "Macbeth"!
Imagine that you are being taken on a tour and the tour guides explain to you that this area was the scene of a bloody and gruesome event some several hundred years earlier...
They inform you that many people think this place is haunted because often, on nights similar to this one, people see the ghosts of the event reliving their past errors; plotting and carrying out the events as if they were living them today...
On this tour you are led to an eerily grotesque tree and asked to wait there as the tour guides have to leave suddenly. The tree begins to shift and slowly reveals that it is the three witches and some of their victims. The events of the play begin to unfold...
As you begin your tour around the area you are guided through the story of Macbeth as the ghosts, who are all slowly decaying, relive the events of their tragic actions. The tour group, equipped with their torches, slowly begin to move around the ruin and experience the reliving of the story of Macbeth.
Dates: 7th - 9th May 2011Location: The Wastelands of Scotland
